With medical advances and the success of local HIV prevention and control efforts, HIV infection has transformed from a fatal disease to a manageable chronic condition.
Starting antiretroviral therapy (ART) early is crucial — it helps maintain health, prevent complications, and greatly improve quality of life. When treatment effectively suppresses the virus to an undetectable level, HIV cannot be passed on through sexual contact. This is known as the “Undetectable = Untransmittable (U=U)” principle.
The “People Living with HIV (PLHIV) Support Services Programme”, is a one-year pilot programme, subsidised by the Government and implemented in collaboration with non-governmental organisations (NGOs), provides comprehensive community-based support for people living with HIV.
The Programme provides counselling, rehabilitation, and bridging support to help participants adjust, sustain their well being, and lead healthy, fulfilling lives.
The Programme serves people currently followed up at public HIV Clinics.
Eligible individuals will be referred by their HIV Clinics based on individualised needs and matched to an appropriate NGO for service provision.
The services will tailor with individual’s needs. Examples include:
All services listed above under the Programme are provided free of charge
Modern HIV medicines are highly effective in controlling the virus and preventing complications.
With proper treatment and support, people living with HIV can enjoy long, active, and fruitful lives.
