Red Ribbon Centre

Under the AIDS Unit, Special Preventive Programme, Public Health Services Branch of Centre for Health Protection, Department of Health, Red Ribbon Centre is an HIV/AIDS education, resource and research centre. Red Ribbon Centre is the base of AIDS Unit's HIV Prevention and Health Promotion Team.

With the support of the AIDS Trust Fund, an old maternity home at Wang Tau Hom Jockey Club was converted into the Red Ribbon Centre. The Centre had its soft opening in 1996, and was officially opened by the Right Honourable Christopher Patten, the last Governor of Hong Kong in 1997.

Management Advisory Committee was appointed to advise on the effective running of the Centre's activities. In 1998, the Red Ribbon Centre has been designated as the UNAIDS Collaborating Centre for Technical Support.

The mission of the Red Ribbon Centre is to facilitate and enhance the community's response to HIV/AIDS.

The objectives of Red Ribbon Centre are:

  • To promote community participation in HIV/AIDS education and research
  • To facilitate the development of social, behavioural and epidemiological research on HIV/AIDS in Hong Kong and the neighbouring regions
  • To enhance the development of quality HIV/AIDS education programmes
