UNAIDS Collaborating Centre for Technical Support

The Department of Health entered into dialogue with the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and was designated an UNAIDS Collaborating Centre for Technical Support in December 1998. An inauguration ceremony was held on 16 June 1999.

The Collaborating Centre undertakes the following functions:

• Operation of a clearinghouse - the maintenance of a comprehensive collection of resource materials on HIV prevention and care for local use and the reference of neighbouring cities and countries.
• Technical development - development of a technical team to support local and international efforts on HIV prevention and care
• Networking - building networks to facilitate communication with counterparts in the Mainland and overseas
• Promotion of collaboration - development of joint and collaborating programmes for sharing of experiences and exchanging ideas.
